The German Government will be providing the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-Accelerator) with an additional 1.5 billion euro of funding in 2021. Most of this sum will go to the vaccine platform COVAX, which is procuring and financing vaccines for developing countries.
In March 2021, to counter tyranny in Belarus, the Federal Government joined with international partners to initiate a mechanism to document severe human rights violations in Belarus. The aim is to make it possible to investigate and prosecute such cases in future.
Since August 2020, people in Belarus have been demonstrating peacefully against electoral fraud and state violence and calling for freedom of opinion and the release of political prisoners. The political leadership in Minsk is responding with repression and unconcealed violence.
